Friday Cape Station: Clean Covers Ready for the Weekend Rush

Friday is when the book gets loud. Capes get wet, snaps break, and a sticky cover is the last thing you want on a walk-in. Give the cover station ten honest minutes before the rush so every chair starts clean.

LEAD Barber & Salon Supply is Black-owned. For us, by us. Shop at LEADBLACKS.COM. No invented prices here. Check current price on each product page.

1. Walk every cape and cover

Pull the cape stack. Check snaps, hook-and-loop, and tears. Anything that will not close stays out of rotation. Fold clean covers the same way every time so the next barber can grab one without hunting.

2. Wipe vinyl, wash what you can

Vinyl and waterproof covers wipe down between clients. A surface cleaner like Barbicide Ship-Shape Spray helps clear product film — follow the label, then dry the cape fully. Cloth covers that need a wash go into the laundry pile now, not after Saturday closes.

3. Restock the towel stack

Clean towels are the backup when a cover is in the wash and the soft landing for hot-towel or rinse work. Keep a full pack of 12 Pack White Towels folded at the station so you are not borrowing from the next chair mid-rush.

4. Gloves on for dirty covers

Handling wet or hair-covered capes with bare hands is how the station gets sticky. Keep Black Gloves 100 ct within reach for laundry runs and wipe-downs, then change gloves before the next client.

5. Soft fill: neck strips under the cape

A neck strip protects the client and keeps the cape cleaner longer. If the strip box is thin, soft-fill with Sanek 12 Pack Box Neck Strips so you are not improvising under a fresh cover.

6. Brush the station, not the cape

Hair left on the cape hook and counter ends up on the next cover. A quick pass with a Magic Collection Soft Club Brush keeps the grab spot clean.

FAQ

Why check capes on Friday instead of Monday?

Friday and Saturday are the busiest chairs of the week. A torn snap, a sticky vinyl cover, or an empty towel stack shows up when you can least afford it. A Friday pass means the weekend starts clean.

What if I do not have a spare cape right now?

Rotate what you have: wash what you can, wipe vinyl covers dry, and keep a clean towel stack ready. Restock towels, gloves, and neck strips from LEADBLACKS.COM so the cover station never runs thin.

How do I clean a vinyl cape between clients?

Wipe it down with a surface cleaner made for salon use, then dry it fully before the next client. Follow the cleaner label. Do not put a damp cape on a client.

Do neck strips replace a cape?

No. Neck strips sit under the cape to keep product and hair off the skin and to keep the cape cleaner longer. Use both when your service calls for a full cover.
