Thursday Pre-Poo: Protect Your Hair Before Weekend Wash Day
Wash day goes better when it starts before the shampoo. If your hair feels tight, tangled, or squeaky after washing, a pre-poo can help. It is one extra step, and it makes the rest of wash day easier.

What a pre-poo does
A pre-poo is a treatment you apply before you shampoo. It gives your strands slip and a layer of softness, so cleansing does not leave hair feeling stripped and detangling goes easier.
Step 1: Section first
Split hair into four to six sections and twist or clip each one. Working in sections means every strand gets covered and you are not fighting the whole head at once.
Step 2: Apply from the ends up
Ends are the oldest, driest part of your hair, so start there. Work a pre-shampoo like African Pride Moisture Miracle Aloe & Coconut Water Pre-Shampoo or African Pride Feel It Formula Strengthening Pre-Wash Detangler through each section, then move toward the roots. Follow the label for how much to use and whether to apply on dry or damp hair.
Step 3: Add oil to dry ends if you need it
If your ends feel extra dry or rough, add a few drops of Camille Rose Buritti Nectar Repair Hair Oil on top. A little goes a long way.
Step 4: Let it sit
Cover with a plastic cap and give it time while you set up for wash day. The label tells you how long. Many people use this time to lay out their shampoo, conditioner, and towels.
Step 5: Shampoo gently, section by section
Rinse, then cleanse with a gentle shampoo like Camille Rose Guava Slip Detangling Shampoo. Focus the shampoo on your scalp and let the suds rinse down the length. Keep your sections twisted so hair does not tangle back up.

FAQ
What is a pre-poo?
A pre-poo is a treatment you put on before you shampoo. It gives hair slip and a little protection so cleansing does not leave it feeling stripped.
How long should I leave a pre-poo on?
Follow the product label. Many people leave it on while they set up for wash day, often 15 to 30 minutes, but the label is the guide.
Do I put pre-poo on wet or dry hair?
Check the label. Many pre-poos go on dry or slightly damp hair, worked in by section from ends to roots.
Can I pre-poo the night before?
Some people do, especially with oils, and cover hair with a bonnet or cap overnight. If you try it, shampoo well the next day so buildup does not sit on the scalp.
