Sunday Family List: Write Down the Black-Owned Businesses You Count On
Most of us already know a few Black-owned businesses we trust. The barber who has been cutting the family for years. The stylist or braider everybody asks about. The spot with the good plates after church. The trouble is, when a need comes up fast, we forget and go with whatever shows up first on the phone. This Sunday, try something simple: sit down with the family and write the list down.
LEAD Barber & Salon Supply is Black-owned. For us, by us. Shop at LEADBLACKS.COM. No invented prices here. Check current price on each product page.
Start with the chair
Put the people who take care of your hair at the top. Your barber, your stylist, your braider, the shop the kids go to. Write the shop name, the person, and how they like to be booked. These are some of the businesses we visit most, so they are a natural place to start.
Go room by room
Walk through your week out loud. Who do we call when the car makes a noise? Where do we get a cake for a birthday? Who does taxes, cleaning, plumbing, photos, catering? Write down every Black-owned business you already use or have heard good things about. Ask the elders at the table. They often know the best ones.
Ask, do not assume
If you are not sure a business is Black-owned, ask, or check its own website. Most owners are proud to tell you. The list is only useful if it is right.
Keep it where you will see it
Put it on the fridge, in a shared note on everyone's phone, or in the family group chat. The point is that when you need something, the Black-owned option is the first thing you see, not the last.
Share it
Send your list to a cousin who just moved, a coworker who asked where you get your hair done, or a neighbor. Every name you share is a customer that business might not have met otherwise. And when you find a new spot, add it.

No pressure and no guilt. Just one Sunday conversation, one written list, and an easier way to keep our dollars with the people we already trust.
FAQ
How do I know a business is Black-owned?
Ask. Check the business's own website or about page, or ask people who know the owner. Do not assume from a name or a logo. Most owners are glad you asked.
What if there is no Black-owned option for something I need?
That is fine. List what you have and add to it as you find new places. This is about making good choices easier, not about perfection or guilt.
Should I share my list?
Sharing is one of the best parts. Send it to family, a friend new to town, or your group chat. Use the contact info the businesses post publicly.
Is LEAD only for barbers?
LEAD Barber & Salon Supply serves barbershops and salons, and also carries hair care for everyday customers at home. You can shop both at LEADBLACKS.COM.
